Our tips for filming at night

The reason why few videographers film at night is because it's not the easiest task. The lack of natural light can make it difficult to shoot at night, resulting in grainy or blurry images if you don't master the right camera settings. Additionally, finding the perfect balance between ISO, aperture, and shutter speed to achieve a well-exposed image without too much digital noise can be challenging.

A fast lens is one that has a large aperture. Why is it important to use it for filming in the evening or at night? Because the larger your aperture ( F1.2 to F2.8 ), the more light the sensor receives. This will allow you to keep your ISO to a minimum and keep a sharp image.

And let's not forget the choice of equipment and accessories which can also impact the quality of your night videos.

The solution is to carry a light source with you, a key piece of video equipment when you want to shoot video in low light conditions.

Tips for filming well in the middle of the night:

  1. Filming in 4K and adjusting the frame rate

  2. Choosing the right video equipment

  3. Understanding Camera Settings

  4. Using lighting to your advantage

  5. Correction in post production

Now that you have all these tips in mind, all that's left is to put them into practice. Don't hesitate to experiment and practice to master every aspect of nighttime video. The night offers an incredible playground for videographers, so take advantage of it to explore new atmospheres and create images that reflect your personality.
