Portrait photography is a technique often used to highlight a subject. It involves working with the foreground and background, as well as the lighting, to capture the essence of the moment, essential for creating a perfect portrait.

This is good news!! A portrait is not technically complex to create most of the time. You have to highlight your subject, make it strong and occupy all the attention in the image, with intensity.

The first step for me is to choose a background that highlights the model, allowing it to be separated from the environment and will create an intimate, personal atmosphere. The photo shoot can be done in the studio or outdoors, exploring different locations to highlight the model. For my part, I prefer to explore outdoor locations in order to play with the environment, the colors and the model, creating natural shots.

Secondly , lighting is a crucial element in photography and highlighting the subject, the choice of a light source, whether natural light or artificial light, transforms the general atmosphere of the photo. We can play with light to highlight the features of a face, to create shadows, to play with contrasts in the foreground as in the background

The goal of a portrait photo? To create an emotional connection.

Each photographer has their own unique vision for portrait photography and brings their own unique perspective and artistry to each shot. Each image is a canvas on which the artist paints with light, capturing the very essence of the subject and creating an intimate connection with the viewer.

Photography is a way of creating precious memories; they are not just simple images, but a personal, touching, and priceless capture. They represent moments frozen in time, smiles and expressions that will pass through generations, thus preserving the emotional bond between family members. These portraits become legacies, testimonies of our history and our identity.

There are different types of portrait photography:

  • Traditional portrait

  • Lifestyle portrait

  • Environmental portrait

  • Street portrait

  • Beauty portrait

  • Art portrait

In short, portrait photography is much more than just taking a picture. It's a universal language that speaks directly to our hearts and minds. It embodies emotion, memory, and identity, while transcending the barriers of time. This art form invites us to explore the very essence of being human and connect with a multitude of emotions. By creating this emotional connection, portrait photography remains a vital pillar of our modern culture and society, and will continue to inspire and move generations to come.
