DIGITAL RETOUCHING

Digital retouching is a crucial step in post-production work. It allows you to work on a photo taken with a state-of-the-art camera to remove imperfections, balance or saturate colors, apply filters, rework the lighting, and more. Today, it's a staple of the photographer's profession and an essential step in developing a good photograph.

Photo retouching involves reworking digital photos using computer editing software. I use Lightroom and Photoshop. Digital enhancement is a process of altering the original image. Photo retouching isn't just about transforming a model into an anorexic bombshell or smoothing out wrinkles. Retouching a photo from a RAW file (raw from the sensor) means first starting from the original material to take control of each artifice that will be added to it.

Digital retouching has become an integral part of a photographer's work. To achieve this, it is essential to undergo training that includes mastering computer software.


But how do you do digital retouching properly ?

  • Tip #1 : Work on a high-quality photo, preferably RAW.

  • Tip #2 : Crop the photo to highlight it

  • Tip #3 : Adjust the light and contrast of the photo

  • Tip #4 : Work on the color and saturation of the photo

  • Tip #5 : Delete/remove unwanted items
